Benefits of Red Tart Cherry Juice Concentrate
I have used red tart cherry juice and have found it to be an excellent pain reliever. It has many other documented benefits. I
suggest you look into it too!
Antioxidants:
Dr. Boxin Ou of Brunswick Labs has identified two important flavonoids and documented the presence of ellagic acid in cherry
juice. The flavonoids- isqueritrin and queritrin-eliminate the by-products of oxidative stress and thereby slow the aging process.
Ellagic acid may inhibit the growth of cancer cells and arrest the growth of cancer cells in subjects with the predisposition for the
disease.
Anthocyanins:
Tart cherries belong to a class of natural dyes called anthocyanins. These dyes give the cherries their rich red color. Twenty
cherries provide 25mg of anthocyanins, which help to shut down the enzymes that cause tissue inflammation so cherries can
prevent and treat many kinds of pain. Recent studies at Michigan State University show that the compounds in the red tart
cherries can be 10 times stronger than aspirin or ibuprofen. The anchocyanins may also protect artery walls from the damage
that leads to plaque build up and heart disease. Recent studies show that anthocyanins do a better job of protecting arteries than
Vitamin C and E.
Perillyl Alcohol:
Dr. Raymond Hohl M.D., University of Iowa, states that tart cherries contain perillyl alcohol. Perillyl Alcohol (POH) shuts down
the growth of cancer cells by depriving them of the proteins they need to grow. POH was up to 5 times more potent than other
cancer reducing compounds at inducing tumor regression.
Melatonin:
The amount of melatonin found in cherry juice, says DR Reiter of University of Texas Health Science Center "is extremely
significant" and may help the body's natural sleep patterns.
Potassium:
Cherry Juice is high in potassium. One ounce of concentrate has the equivalent of eating 1/2banana. Potassium deficiencies may
show up in many ways including arthritis, headache, high blood pressure, and constant fatigue. Food sources high in potassium
can help with multiple sclerosis, lupus, atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries), and Alzheimer's disease.
